It was a very nice surprise to receive the January 1st edition of the BC Catholic today, only to find that the front cover was of the icon of Our Lady Of Canada: a full colour page. I'm not sure who spearheaded that one but it was very touching.
This edition had a natural January 1st focus on the few dedications to Our Lady through the Canadian 150th. The icon itself was not part of these recent dedications. as It was written in 1995, placing Canada under Her care in that same year. But it seems like the icon became unknown to the Catholic Conference Of Bishops. It was commissioned by then Father Joseph Royer and initially installed at Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church in Edmonton, Alberta where it was to be readily accessible to all Canadians. It later followed His Grace Joseph Royer to All Saints Orthodox Cathedral, also in Edmonton.
Andre Prevost, began his work in theatre in the late 70s and in iconography in 1980 and has a large body of work in each. He has been based in Western Canada; North Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and now back in North Vancouver. He is also currently working on a series of acrylic paintings 'Journeying with the Totems' which will be featured in 2 exhibitions in 2015.
