After completing my studies in Theatre Arts and Design at the Banff School of Fine Arts in 1978, I worked in the Theatre Arts and Arts Administration until 2013, and taught the Arts & Drama programs at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional High School, North Vancouver, BC in 1981-86. I also continued my studies and work in my Visual Arts, focusing on Byzantine Iconography over the next 40+ years, with an extensive body of work throughout Western Canada. Once retired from Theatre Arts, I began a journey of rediscovery, returning to my original painting leading to the study of Totems in acrylic called ‘Journeying With The Totems’. I had thought through what that natural progression could be, and why. The work had to be true to the totems and their respective Heritage and Cultures, My passion is to capture close-up facets within a moment of a totem's life span, how the cedar and carving set within it have aged together. And like my work in Byzantine Icons, the totems are also based on tradition and symbolic language and guided by tradition and reverence.
