Journeying With The Totems - June 14, 2015

Spent the day looking at totems photographs today. It always takes a few days to transition from icon commissions and back to the totem paintings. They are both iconic but very different in content and technique. I was initially thinking of completing a few that I had started earlier in the year, but I am leaning more to starting a new canvas and with a fresh focus rather then trying to kick start a painting mid way. I came across a number of great photographs with lots of definition to work from, and a few that I'm really interested in but would be challenging in how they are more subtle in detail and shading.

I did come across a few more pictures on the Bicentennial Pole in Sitka, of the bottom and top sections. The Raven/Eagle painting that I did in time for the Silk Purse exhibition is the middle section. I have been trying to locate the names of the couple that purchased that painting for both the website and for my archive, but haven't been successful yet. If they happen upon My Journal, I would love to hear from them through the contact tab above. I would also especially love to see pictures of all my sold paintings in their new homes.

But I did come across a picture which was posted on the Richochet blog posting on Sitka. I was taken by how the totem has aged and the reality of how my painting caught it at very distinct time, and will never look like that again.
